“Bat-head” is totally trendy right now. You can get a fake one at Party City in the costume section, OR you can travel into a deep, dank cave to find the real thing for a super-chic look that will impress all of your friends. Simply affix the bat to your hair with a few industrial bobby pins, remember to remove it each night and feed it some fruit or insects, and you’re good to go! Instant cool.

Bats are not rodents. However, having on sit on your head is NOT a good idea unless this critter was born in captivity from healthy parents. Bats can look / act perfectly normal for MONTHS while carring rabies.

What an EXTREMELY bad idea!!! Can you say – RABIES???? It is NOT fun to die from rabies. I have seen it happen.

I like bats, bats are good. Too bad so many people hate them for no real reason.
I believe bats are sooo sweet, so fluffy and coote and they have such an unique wing design, also amazing hunters. Though, I would still shake it off my head if it’s got rabies, but otherwise it would be so cool!!!!

It’s not cute at ALL when a bat actually does land on your head. Trust me.
I’ve worked with bats for over 15 years and have had a maternity roost of over 550 of them living in my loft, and I have NEVER had any bat land on my head, or on me, or anyone I know – their echolocation is designed to allow them to fly at speed through thick woodland without ever colliding with so much as a leaf, so for any bat to not “see” your head it must be very ill or have been thrown at you by someone.
Somebody is going to be getting rabies shots.
I’m betting this was taken in Australia, where there is no rabies.
…or New Zealand, likewise rabies-free.

That is not a bobby pin you see there. Bats have little vestigial fingers on the tip of each wing. Notice how it is clinging to her hair and not intersecting with the rest of the wing?

awww so cute – somewhat larger than my little pipistrelle bats though. And I really wish people would get over the whole “bats have rabies” thing – (1) it is EXTREMELY rare (2) NOT “rabies” anyway – it’s actually lyssavirus that bats can carry, not rabies, although it is similar, but rabies vaccinations do not protect against lyssavirus anyway (3) just about impossible (as mentioned in the UK, Australia & NZ, (4) MOST bats are far too tiny to be able to bite through human skin anyway as the vast majority are insectovorous (5) you’d have to be VERY lucky/unlucky to be able to CATCH a bat, and for the one you manage to catch to be infected, and be annoyed enough to want to bite you, and to be big enough to be able to bite you. (6) it is illegal for people without a bat handling license to trap or handle a bat anyway.
