Well, they attack crocodiles. This is one of several pics a photographer captured of an attack. You can see more at the link below. Clearly, things don’t turn out well for the croc.
I’m pretty sure if you put either one in a pool with a hippo, the hippo’s reaction will be the same. There’s a hippo that lives in a Florida wildlife park. Pretty sure he knows a thing or two about alligators.
I thought this being classified as “role reversal” was strange, too. I’ve heard that hippos are actually very dangerous animals. You don’t wanna mess with a huge animal like this that’s capable of effortlessly squishing an entire watermelon in its jaws! Mmm Mmm! *Shakes head*
Yeah, supposedly they are the only animal Steve Irwin was well and truly afraid of. That pretty much lands them right in the “badass” category right there.
And BOY can I understand that! I’m actually half surprised by that. I never expected that Steve would be afraid of them, but when you think about it, he SHOULD be…and everyone else (including that kid who wants a hippopotamus for Christmas =P )
What I heard from Bear Grylls was that Hippos kill more people in Africa every year than all other African animals combined. Not the best source but it still sounds awesome.
This is actually a fairly common occurance in the amazon. Hippos can open their mouths 120 degrees, and can exert several hundred pounds of bite force. That crocodile probably didn’t survive the experience.
This is not a very nice photo :( I thought the site was about light, animal-related humor… not photos of animals seconds before death @_@. This is a scary photo.
this was on the discovery channel, in that show about all the hippos that got anthrax and died because they ate dead hippo meat. They mentioned other “odd hippo behavior” and chomping and killing crocs, including one hippo that bit a croc entirely in half in one bite.
on further study it’s true, the hippo is the more dangerous creature, but it is still freaky as hell to actually see a croc falling victim in such an ironic manner
Wow… Hippos are just too big & powerful for a croc to handle. Besides, why take the pic down? It’s not like we see any gore, or even the hippo’s teeth. Let’s just say they’re madly in love! I nom my boyfriend all the time!
In Soviet Russia…
Epic win.
This isn’t really a role reversal, Hippos regularly attack alligators that get too close.
Actually I’ve never heard of an “Alligator” being attacked by a Hippo, not ev en once. :P

Yes but an Alligator and a Crocodile are two different animals…

Yes, that’s why I say the attack crocs. I didn’t say they attack alligators.

Icky hippo trivia: when a hippo poops, it wisks its tail back and forth and spreads it around.
And BOY can I understand that! I’m actually half surprised by that. I never expected that Steve would be afraid of them, but when you think about it, he SHOULD be…and everyone else (including that kid who wants a hippopotamus for Christmas =P )
yep, not a role reversal. Crocodiles try to stay away from hippos. It’s estimated that hippos kill more people than crocodiles.
Yea hippos kill more people in Africa than any other wild animal
Across Africa, hippos kill more people than crocs do.
In Soviet Africa…

Except that hippos don’t live in South America.
In other news, there are no piranhas in Africa.
some drug dealer or something introduced hippos into south america so there are actually hippos there
LOL Geography fail. I failed Geography AND Biology and I know that the Amazon has no hippos. Thanx; IMMD. :D

Hippos are FAR more deadly than crocodiles.
When it comes to killing people, the numbers are ridiculous.
Of course you probably shouldn’t tell that to Jessica the Hippo.

lol-hippoes: i can has alligator? kthx bai.

Secret agent Crocky has been found out!
take it down. that’s just horrible
Wow… Hippos are just too big & powerful for a croc to handle. Besides, why take the pic down? It’s not like we see any gore, or even the hippo’s teeth. Let’s just say they’re madly in love! I nom my boyfriend all the time!
Actually, crocodiles never attack hippos, it’s the other way around. So for those of you who think this is switched you’re mistaken.
Mammals FTW!
